Claire Wilson School of Dance

Welcome to Claire Wilson School of Dance, a school focused on developing a true love of dance. We are in our 14th year of community-based Highland dance education. Our outreach classes engage young people aged 3–18 across Lewis and Harris, covering Stornoway, Breasclete, Ness, and Tarbert, Harris. We truly believe in nurturing creativity, artistic development, and aiming high. We offer a warm and positive environment to foster the growth that all dancers want and need either recreationally or competitively.

Tuition is by Claire Matheson who is a member of the British Association of Teacher’s of Dance, The Scottish Dance Teacher's Association and the United Kingdom Alliance.

Our Dancers are based on the stunning Isle of Lewis and Harris, in the Outer Hebrides and we are continually fundraising to give our dancers the best possible experience and opportunities galore.  Island life involves Flights and Ferry Travel and represents an additional financial burden unique to island dancers. Fundraising ensures that young dancers from Lewis and Harris can compete on par safely and effectively, with appropriate coaching and supervision, accessing national and international competitions based on ability and dedication rather than geography or cost. With all your help we have successfully competed internationally in Disneyland Paris at the International Festival of Highland Dance, in Derry, Ireland, at the Ulster Championships, in Dunoon at the World Famous Cowal Highland Gathering, which hosts the World Highland Dance Championships and now...where will we aim for next?

NEW YORK, NEW YORK!

Currently, we have two dancers heading to New York to take part in the Fling Together Collective – New York Tartan Day Parade in April 2026.

We are especially proud that Ellie May auditioned independently and successfully qualified for the Parade Squad — a wonderful achievement for her and a testament to her dedication. While in New York, Ellie May and her little sister Lillian, who is only 4, will also compete in the New York Tartan Day Competition. This will be Lillian’s first ever competition, making it a very exciting milestone for our school!
